Review of Dime Store Magic (Women of the Otherworld #3) by Kelley Armstrong

Dime Store Magic (Women of the Otherworld, #3)
Description
Leader of the American Coven, guardian to the preteen daughter of a black witch … it’s not the lifestyle twenty-three year-old Paige Winterbourne imagined for herself, and it’s wreaking hell on her social life.
But she’s up to the challenge. When half-demon Leah O'Donnell returns to fight for custody of Savannah, Paige is ready. She’s not as prepared for the team of supernaturals Leah brings with her, including a powerful sorcerer who claims to be Savannah’s father. Cut off from her friends, accused of witchcraft, Satanism, necromancy, murder…Paige quickly realizes that keeping Savannah could mean losing everything else. Has she finally found a battle she isn't willing to fight?

*This is an adult book and may contain sex, and it does contain strong language*

My Thoughts
So the third in the serious whoop :D. I know that this is going to be good... I can tell this is more to do with magic than werewolves.. how?.. because of the description and title. I love the line underneath the authors name. Prepare to be enchanted. . . - This seems interesting and good. Anyway This was also from my sister.

The writing style is exactly the same as the two books before this..:D.. and I its easy to read it if you don't mind long books. The story-line is different two the 2 before which I am very glad of though it does mention characters from the book before and has some in. Paige is the main character here and the POV is her. She was in the last book but didn't play a major role., but in this she does. Is it just me are is the font getting bigger..or is it just that I'm getting used to it.. whatever the reason I feel its getting easier to read these books which I am glad. Though at first it was a but slow and uninteresting but after it started rolling and I was glued to the book and wanted to finish it.

The main character in this book is Paige and she was an all right character not as good as Elena but still an alright character. She's strong and determined to keep the ones she loves as safe as possible and will do anything to do just that. Savannah is so young but yet so powerful and her love for her mother and even Paige is so strong and I just love her so much as a character. Lucas is also a main character and I actually love him to bits. He just wanted to help Paige and yeah it started out professional.. but then.. it turned out he really is a great and kind guy and I loved him to bits. Leah, let me think of what I can say about her other than she is such a mean character and I hate her to bits.  There was many other characters and not just good ones the bad characters are just as bad.

My overall opinion on this book is that it was a good read and I loved it enough to read the next book .. even if I hated it I would :D
Some of the characters was just so utterly amazing and I am glad they were in it.. though I wished that more of the characters from the last book was in it.
I recommend this book to all adult and people who have been reading this series so far.

Review of Stolen (Women of the Otherworld #2) by Kelley Armstrong

Even though she’s the world’s only female werewolf, Elena Michaels is just a regular girl at heart -- with larger than normal appetites. She sticks to three feasts a day, loves long runs in the moonlight, and has a lover who is unbelievably frustrating yet all the more sexy for his dark side. Like every regular girl, she certainly doesn't believe in witches. Then again, when two small, ridiculously feminine women manage to hurl her against a wall, and then save her from the hunters on her tail, Elena realizes that maybe there are more things in heaven and earth than she’s dreamt of.
Vampires, demons, shamans, witches -- in Stolen they all exist, and they’re all under attack. An obsessed tycoon with a sick curiosity is well on his way to amassing a private collection of supernaturals, and plans to harness their powers for himself -- even if it means killing them. For Elena, kidnapped and imprisoned deep underground, separated from her Pack, unable to tell her friends from her enemies, choosing the right allies is a matter of life and death.

*This is an adult book and may contain sex, and it does contain strong language*

After reading the first one I had to grab the second one as soon as possible and start reading it. The description just makes me fall into the book, and I just wanted to read it all. Once again the cover is just amazing and I knew what the book was roughly about before I even read the blurb.

This book was even better than the first one. If I could rate this higher than I have I would. This one had hardly any sex scenes and that meant there was more action. From the very first chapter to the very last I may have put the book down at times but that's only if I was in college.. or on the laptop or going to sleep. Other than that I was glued to it and I didn't want to stop reading. The plot and writing style is so good. The plot is basically what the blurb/description says. The writing style is the same as the book before. The POV is once again Elena, I love the POV being Elena I do not know how I am going to like the POV being different in the next book.

Well what can I say about the characters.. It is the same characters as the book before.. but a lot more characters are also introduced, and not just good ones, bad ones too. Elena is once again the main character, she is brave, strong and I love her to bits, once again she tries anything to save her life and others. Clay. Jeremy is also in the book but they don't play a major role as they did with the book before. Paige and Ruth are witches and they come into the book to warn the werewolf's about what has been happening and to join forces to fight whatever it is to fight. Adam is a half demon and is also in this book.. to me he isn't a main character but he is in it more than Clay and Jeremy. Cassandra is also in this book and she is a vampire.. I really don't like her, she was just to me a really bad character, I am so glad she didn't have a major role. Leah is also a half demon but she has a different ability to Adam. Savannah is a witch and she is only a young girl who was kept underground with Leah and soon to be Elena. Savannah may be young but she is powerful. There is many more characters but I don't want to bore you with them all. I am just going to say all character have something interesting about them.

My overall opinion is that I liked most of the characters and the plot was utterly amazing. The ideas in this book is phenomenal and I will never forget about this book either.
I recommend this book to anyone who reads Adult books and love supernatural creatures such as.. Vampires, Werewolf's , witches, demons etc..

Review of Bitten (Women of the Otherworld #1) by Kelley Armstrong

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1)
Description
Elena Michaels is your regular twenty-first-century girl: self-assured, smart and fighting fit. She also just happens to be the only female werewolf in the world...

It has some good points. When she walks down a dark alleyway, she's the scary one. But now her Pack - the one she abandoned so that she could live a normal life - are in trouble, and they need her help. Is she willing to risk her life to help the ex-lover who betrayed her by turning her into a werewolf in the first place? And, more to the point, does she have a choice?

*This is an adult book and contains sex and strong language*

My Thoughts
My sister has had these for a while and because its an adult book I couldn't really read it until a certain age.. hence why I'm them now :D. The cover lured me in and the description helped a lot. There is so many covers out there with the characters at the front.. this is different.

The book was Amazing. There wasn't to many sex scenes thank god. It was mostly the plot and action, which was great. I love books with werewolves and this impressed me so much. The writing style of this book is great and it is very descriptive. The writing was small but I got used to it after a few chapters because I was glued into the book (Not literally lol). The POV was mainly on Elena who is the main character in this book.

There is many characters in this book but the main one is the one I mentioned just now. Elena Michaels is not your regular women.. nope she's a werewolf, the only werewolf which is around because werewolf genes is only passes on to sons unless bitten and when your bitten you may not survive. She's a strong willed women/werewolf and she tries to make the right decisions though some aren't so great. She willing to try anything to help her life.. but some things are just.. out of your hand as you see in the book. Clayton is another main character who is a werewolf.. and he has a history with Elena which you find out in the book (not gonna spoil it). He is strong, feisty, hot and is protective. I love him so much and I never ever want to forget this character. Jeremy is the pack alpha which means he's in charge of the pack which Clay and (kind of) Elena is part of. He is such a kind and Understanding guy but I feel some decisions he makes are stupid and I feel that Elena or another character should of been alpha, but other than that he's a great werewolf and character and he's just got that spark which I love.

My overall opinion on which you could probaly guess is that i loved this with a passion and i never ever want to forget this book :) I think this is like one of my top ten books ever and maybe the Number 1 book in this month :)
I recocmend this book to Adult reader or who reads Adult books and if they love Werewolfs :D (I mean it .. Get a copy).

Review of Tithe (The Modern Faerie Tales #1) by Holly Black

Tithe (The Modern Faerie Tales, #1)
Description
Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother's rock band until an ominous attack forces the sixteen-year-old back to her childhood home. There, amid the industrial, blue-collar New Jersey backdrop, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms -- a struggle that could very well mean her death.

My Thoughts
So.. I knew my sister has had this for a while.. but I never thought of reading it until I read all of the other books my sister had read and I loved them so why not try this one. The cover is very intriguing to me and it well is also to do with the book which is great. So I was getting excited to read this.. and how I was glad to read it.

The writing style of this books is easy and great, the font in the book is big so it was an easy and quick read but it never lacked in anything. Love wasn't a great deal but yet was apart of it. The POV kept changing but it was mostly on Kaye seen as to me she was the main character :D. I loved how this book was a bit different to other faerie books which I am glad.. I say, what's the point in every book being the same. I love the plot and the ideas of the whole book.

Kaye is such a great character and she doesn't even know the full truth. She is brave, strong and she is a loving character. As in other books she doesn't want what is happening but she will have to live with it and get used to it, and I think she deals with it in away I might of if I was told what she was told. Rye is a faerie and he plays a good part in this book. Cornelius also plays a part in this book and the way he accepts it is well a lot better than I thought... a bit unreal but oh well. He is brave and charming. All characters in this book I feel in love with or liked a lot, even the bad guys. (yeah I know, I'm mental).

My overall opinion of this book is that it is amazing and I truly loved it. It was an easy read and loveable characters. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good faerie story/book.

Review of Bleeding Hearts (Drake Chronicles #4) by Alyxandra Harvey

Bleeding Hearts (Drake Chronicles, #4)
Description

The Drakes and friends will be tested when an infestation of deadly vampires threatens Violet Hill.

Lucy's cousin Christabel has come to live in Violet Hill, and adjusting to the difference between life in a small mountain town and her home in the city is difficult enough. The strict curfew that Lucy's parents enforce is the worst part. Something really dangerous couldn't possibly happen in this tiny town.
But Christabel has noticed some mysterious happenings, and it seems like Lucy, her boyfriend Nicholas and his brother Connor are all in on a secret that Christabel doesn't understand—one that seems deadly serious. Although she won't admit it, Christabel would love to be in on any secret with Connor Drake. But when she is kidnapped by the ruthless Hel-Blar vampires, Christabel must cause more and more trouble in Violet Hill, Lucy and Connor finally fill Christabel in on all the undead drama. Together, they must find a way to stamp out the Hel-Blar for good.

My Thoughts
Well when my sister came home saying she bought two books I was so excited... and I jumped for joys when I saw this was one of them. After she read it I stopped reading what I was reading and started reading this.. I would say I read it within a day. The cover relates to the book to me, and I love how if you saw it you would be drawn into it.

This book is so well written and well thought out, I didn't really forget the characters though I did get confused at some parts of the book, but that might be because I am one confused girl. The POV changes with each chapter and takes turn. So 1 chapter is Lucy.. the other is Connor and then the next Christabel. This is a great plot and though some characters arent the main ones in this book they still pay an important role. Solange kind of creeps me out in this book.. you will see why, if and when you read this, or if you have already.

The characters in this book are either human, or a vampire, OR maybe a Hel- Bar. Christabel is here because of a certain reason and she is trying to get used to living in violet hill, she doesn't know anything about the vampires but she soon learns about it, she is brave and an interesting character and I loved her love for books and poetry. Lucy was a character in the last 3 books so i don't really need to say much apart from I loved her still and I liked how she is so brave even knowing that danger is out there. Connor is one of the Drakes brothers and how I like is point of view. He is one tough vampire and I love how he risked everything to do a certain thing in the book. (not saying what :) )

My overall opinion on this book is.. its as good as the other 3 before :D .. If you loved the others.. or if you haven't read them yet.. then GET your hands on them.

(PS. WHAT an ending :O )

Review of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, Siobhan Dowd

A Monster CallsDescription
An unflinching, darkly funny, and deeply moving story of a boy, his seriously ill mother, and an unexpected monstrous visitor. At seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting— he’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his backyard is different. It’s ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth. From the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd— whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself— Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief, loss, and monsters both real and imagined.
My sister bought this in waterstones, and I would like to say that this idea is a great idea. The cover shows a monster and inside has great illustrations.
Though this book is by Patrick Ness the idea was from Siobhan Dowd who passed away.. this book has such great ideas and I am so happy that Patrick Ness got to continue her wonderful work. This book was just a little bit frightening and yet emotional. I cried at two moments in the book. The style of this book is interesting and it is an easy read. The font is big and the pages are hardly covered with writing. The illustrations are wonderfully done and some were a little creepy. The illustration helped me with the understanding of the book though, so I am happy they were in the book.

The main character is Conor who to me is such a weird character if I think about it, what he goes through is so hard and I wouldn't want that to fall on me at all. He is brave, emotional and a little silly at times.

The monster is a little scary but yet very kind and helpful to Conor. He tells the tales and makes Conor know what he has to do.

My overall opinions on this book is that its captivating, amazing, emotional and powerful :D Please give this book a try :D

Review of The Black Magician Trilogy 1-3 by Trudi Canavan

****Warning : Only read this if you have read all 3 books.. or don't mind :)***

The Magicians' Guild (Black Magician Trilogy, #1)

Description

This year, like every other, the magicians of Imardin gather to purge the city of undesirables. Cloaked in the protection of their sorcery, they move with no fear of the vagrants and miscreants who despise them and their work—until one enraged girl, barely more than a child, hurls a stone at the hated invaders . . . and effortlessly penetrates their magical shield.

What the Magicians' Guild has long dreaded has finally come to pass. There is someone outside their ranks who possesses a raw power beyond imagining, an untrained mage who must be found and schooled before she destroys herself and her city with a force she cannot yet control.

The Novice (Black Magician Trilogy, #2)

Description

Alone among all the novices in the Magicians' Guild, only Sonea comes from lowly beginnings. Yet she has won powerful allies—including Lord Dannyl, newly promoted to Guild Ambassador. But Dannyl must now depart for the Elyne court, leaving Sonea at the mercy of the lies and malicious rumors her enemies are busy spreading . . . until the High Lord Akkarin steps in. The price of Akkarin's support is dear, however, because Sonea, in turn, must protect his mysteries—and a secret that could lead a young novice mage deep into the darkness.

Meanwhile, Dannyl's first order to resume High Lord Akkarin's long-abandoned research into ancient magical knowledge is setting him on an extraordinary journey fraught with unanticipated peril—as he moves ever-closer to a future both wondrous . . . and terrible.

The High Lord (Black Magician Trilogy, #3)
Description
Sonea has learned much since she was but a penniless urchin possessing an awesome untapped ability. She has earned the grudging respect of her fellow novices and a place in the Magicians' Guild. But there is much she wishes she had never learned—what she witnessed, for example, in the underground chamber of the mysterious High Lord Akkarin . . . and the knowledge that the Guild is being observed closely by an ancient fearsome enemy.
Still, she dares not ignore the terrifying truths the High Lord would share with her, even though she fears it may be base trickery, a scheme to use her astonishing powers to accomplish his dark aims. For Sonea knows her future is in his hands—and that only in the shadows will she achieve true greatness . . . if she survives.

I decided to do this is a whole because I felt it really hard to do it separately and because I read it one after each other so everything has kind of linked together.. so I felt that I may of spoiled something in the first 2 books.

Theses books are amazing and that's the reason why I read them so quickly :D

Trudi Canavan is such a great and amazing writer, the way she can do emotions from both female and male so amazing and how she made sure all characters had flaws and they weren't so perfect. If I could, I would chose for her to re write some of the books I have read, because she is that good.

Sonea is the main Character in all 3 and she is such a brave, strong and believable character :D

This book has magic.. evil.. and goodness
Love, romance and a little of betrayal

If you have read Harry Potter or other books which contains magic then give all 3 of these ago :D

My fave book out of all of these is The High Lord , my least is The Magicians' Guild :D

Ratings:
The Magicians' Guild: 4 STARS
The Novice: 5 STARS
The High Lord: 5 STARS
