Review of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Book ThiefDescription
Story of a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany narrated by Death. Told from a perspective of an fascinated observer, the girl's interaction with family and friends against the background of war and the Holocaust is told in a straightforward manner that captures the amazing capacity of humans to survive and support one another - or not.
^^GoodReads^^

My Thoughts
I got this off Amazon for £5.00 and it was my first time ordering from online. The reason I bought this is on a group on goodreads the mods loved the book and rated it 5 stars so I just had to buy it and read it. The cover shows 2 characters.

I have never read anything by Markus Zusak ever before so I didn't know what to expect or if it were going to be interesting and good. The book is narrated by death and throughout the whole book things were mentioned which hasn't actually happened then went back to the current time, so on . I like the style of writing and I like the little images throughout the book, it kept things interesting. The emotion through out the book was so utterly breathtaking and amazing, the plot of it all was a great plot and I loved many characters. This book made me cry at points throughout the story and the end. (not saying why :P).

The book has many characters but I only want to write about some of them, the ones who I think played an important role in the story. Liesel is such a brave, amazing strong character and of young age. She does what she thinks write and I love her interest in books, or more importantly words. She was so passionate at learning to read and she was such a helpful little girl. Rudy who is her best friend is a nice, kind and silly boy but I loved that about him and he did anything he could to help Liesel and all he wanted was just a kiss. Hans who is Liesel fostered father is such an amazing, pure heated man who loved Liesel so much and helped her to learn to read and helped her through her bad nights. Then came Max who was a good listener to Liesel and they just cared for each other and helped each other through both of their bad nights and times. These characters has such a great impact in the story but I can't ignore the narrator now can I?.No. Death is who Narrates the book and I feel sorry for him, he has to watch everyone die. I loved how he grown kind of attached to Liesel and I felt a strong bond between them both. To me Rudy and Max was my favourite characters.

My overall opinion on this book is that it is heart braking, emotional, beautiful and angry. I loved this book though it is not something I would of thought of reading.

His family moved to Maine when Courtney's father went missing. It's not just Alan's dark good looks that make him attractive. He is also totally in touch with a kind of spiritual mysticism from his Native American heritage. And it's not long before Aimee has broken up with her boyfriend ...But it's not Aimee or Alan who is truly haunted - it's Courtney. In a desperate plea to find her father, Courtney invites a demonic presence into her life. Together, Aimee and Alan must exorcise the ghost, before it devours Courtney - and everything around her.

My Thoughts
My sister bought this and tried to read it but.. she couldn't get into it. So I read the description and saw the front cover and decided I would have ago. The cover looks promising.

I have read books from Carrie Jones before and I loved her writing... but this book the description and everything just wasn't as good , it may be that S.E Wedel has a different type of writing and so he let the book down. Anyway.. the plot was so slow and most the time it wasn't even about that it was about Aimee and Alan wanting to kiss but not having the guts etc. etc. The POV is either about Aimee or Alan and it changes with every chapter. This book was meant to be about demon possession but it was hardly mentioned or focused on until the last 10 chapters or so.

My thoughts on Aimee:
  • She is brave
  • She is sometimes so annoying
  • She is strange
  • She is strong
My thoughts on Alan:
  • He is brave
  • He is strong
  • He is weird
  • He is also so slow
My thoughts on The River Man:
  • He is evil
  • He is a little scary
  • He was so predictable

My overall opinion of this book:
The idea was a great one but it lacked on description and the plot of the actual story. The characters were not loveable. Other than that i managed to read through it easy and I liked some things about it. I was going to rate this 2 but I thought hold on.. it was a little bit better than 2.

My Thoughts
This has been on my shelve for a while.. it looks like it would be hard to read and everything. When i couldn't think of what to read I picked this up and I started reading it. My sister bought this so I didn't pay anything. The cover shows that its going to be set in a more olden day ways and the guy is a character from the book I think.

I loved the Mortal Instruments.. so much because I thought Cassandra Clare is a great writer. She is so amazing at describing things and for you to imagine things being there in front of you. The start of this book was a little slow and a bit boring but after a while I got so glued to it I wanted to finish it. The POV is to any of the main characters of the good guys but mostly Tessa.

My thoughts on Tessa :
  • She is brave
  • She is strong
  • She is a little annoying at times.

My thoughts on Will:
  • He is so annoying
  • He isn't really likeable
  • He is self centred
  • He is blind to the truth
  • He is caring

My thoughts on Jem:
  • He is loveable
  • He is caring
  • He is kind
  • He is also my Favourite guy character in this book

My overall opinion is:
I like the idea and I like how they help Tessa out a lot. I think Cassandra Clare could of made the start more appealing and not as slow and boring. I loved it a lot.

Review of The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies #2) by Pittacus Lore

The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies #2)
Description
I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to me . . . he's one of us.
Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.
I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.
And I'm ready to fight.
^^GoodReads^^

I was so happy when I got to read this.. because I read the first one and watched the movie of it so I was so excited and with this some of the characters i can see in my head clearly because of the movie. I read this on my sisters kindle so I read it for free. I find the cover a little too boring.. but oh well.

Pittacus Lore is a great writer and I like how he can write about girls and boys in great detail and I like how he does it so it all runs smoothly and well. The POV is either about John or Marina :D.

My thoughts on John (Number 4).:

  • He is strong
  • He is emotional
  • He is loveable
  • He is a little funny
  • And I like him a lot
My thoughts on Number Six:
  • She is Strong
  • She is brave
  • She is a but too serious
  • She is also a little loveable
  • I like her a little bit
My thoughts on Marina (Number 7):
  • She is a little clueless
  • She is strong
  • She is brave
  • She is a great character
My thoughts on Sam:
  • He is amazing
  • He is funny
  • He is strong (even for a human)
  • I love him :D
My overall opinion is this book had a little romance not too much.. it has action and again not too much and it has power and friendship and maybe a little betrayal :D

Review of Skulduggery Pleasant: Death Bringer (Skulduggery Pleasant #6) by Derek Landy

Skulduggery Pleasant: Death BringerDescription
The sixth instalment in the historic, hysterical and horrific Skulduggery Pleasant series. Think you’ve seen anything yet? You haven’t. Because the Death Bringer is about to rise…The Necromancers no longer need Valkyrie to be their Death Bringer, and that’s a Good Thing. There’s just one catch. There’s a reason the Necromancers don’t need her any more. And that’s because they’ve found their Death Bringer already, the person who will dissolve the doors between life and death. And that’s a very, very Bad Thing…
^^GoodReads^^

My Thoughts
I have been waiting for this book for ages.. and my sister tried to get it in Hardback but couldn't find it so she got it on kindle, which of course meant I had to wait to read it which was fine by me. The front cover shows Skulduggery and Valkyrie and you can tell that this book is going to be about the death bringer hence the title. The line at the bottom of the cover Kicking Evil Very Hard In The Face Tell's me that their is going to be a lot of fighting which is great.

Derek Landy is suck a great writer and to be able to write the serious side and the funny side together as one must be great talent.. When I read the very first book I was instantly drawn to it and all I wanted to do was read on and on and on.. and then after reading this book all I want is the next one :D. This is written in 3rd person which means it can jump from character to character with this book you need to be able to know the plot line and to have all the details you need to be able to understand the storyline.

My thoughts on Valkyrie are she is a nice and strong girl and she doesn't want all of this on her but she has no choice... but I kind of have my negatives on her she is two timing on fletcher with a vampire and she thinks that's okay which it is not and sometimes she can be acting all hard and tough when really she is scared to the bone, though I must say she can keep secrets very well.. I feel she is taking after Skulduggery Pleasant very well in the secrets department as he keeps secrets and he sometimes acts as if he knows it all which he don't.. but my positives on Skulduggery is he would do whatever it takes to protect young Valkyrie and he is very funny and made me giggle in times in the book even in a serious situation he can make me smile. :)

My overall opinion is if this never had a good plot I may of rated it 4 1/2 instead of 5 but because the plot and storyline saved it I am being such an amazing person :D If you like Funny and adventures books then The Skulduggery Pleasant series is the right series for you :D

Review of Hades (Halo #2) by Alexandra Adornetto

HadesDescription

Bethany Church believes so- after all, the love of her angel siblings and her boyfriend Xavier saved her from the clutches of hell itself.

But when Jake Thorn returns to town, determined to take Beth away with him, it seems he may be able to destroy everything she cares about.

Will Jake's actions shatter Beth's faith in love? Or can she overcome heartache and betrayal to fulfil her role on Earth?
^^Back of book^^

My Thoughts
Not only have a been waiting since last December to get this, but the first book Halo is one of my Favourite books ever so I was so excited when my sister told me it was in WHSmiths, a day early :D As you see the cover is such a beautiful cover and to me it draws you in. The price was £9.99 and it was so worth it.

Alexandra Adornetto is such a brilliant writer and I am so glad she did a series for this.. after the first book i didn't think she could make it any better but she did. Her style of writing is such an amazing style and I feel in love with it so easy. She describes the settings very well and the characters. I read the book in less than a day because I was glued to it. The POV is from Bethany's point of view. The way she wrote about Hell or in her words "Hades".. was so freaky and scary in the same way because of what she shows hell to be like..she also sticks with the normal stuff aka. Hell hounds and stuff.. it kind of reminds me of "supernatural" (oops I'm getting of track).. She writes down emotions and thoughts very well.

My thoughts on the characters are.. Bethany to me seems like an amazing and strong character she went through a lot in Halo and she goes through a lot in this. Xavier is also a great and strong and also to me an emotional character. Jake is an evil, twisted demon.. but to me, didn't want to be out to hurt, its just the way he is and the way he got brought up. There are more characters but the 3 I said were the main ones.

My overall opinion on this book is its emotional, sad but an amazing read, I recommend anyone who loves books with Angels, or Demons in to give this a try and also if you read Halo.
